In THE CRUST we trust!

Steffen - Jacob - Joshua

The Crust is a high-energy classic rock show band from West Des Moines, Iowa. Winners of the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame's 2021 Iowa Rocks Talent Competition, we love making music and entertaining with our take on classic rock covers and our original music.

We are currently covering Van Halen, Rush, Queen, ZZ Top, Lenny Kravitz, Jimi Hendrix, Mötley Crüe, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Primus, Pantera, Ozzie Osborne, The Beatles, Deep Purple, Rick Deringer, Living Color, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, KISS, Radiohead, Stone Temple Pilots, Blue Oyster Cult, Grand Funk Railroad, The Who, Violent Femmes, David Lee Roth, Nazareth, Måneskin, Billy Idol, Cream, The Cult, Alice in Chains, and more.

The Crust has performed at Adventureland, the Roof Garden Ballroom, Preservation Plaza, the Surf Ballroom, 80/35 Music Festival, HoTU Music Festival, RAGBRAI, local Des Moines metro and multiple Iowa venues, festivals, and private events.

With soulful vocals, soaring guitars, lush keys, thick bass, and chest-thumping drums, we embrace every opportunity to engage our audience. We do all our own stunts, and (in the words of Queen...)

Joshua

Guitar, drums, keyboard, vocals, songwriting

As a founding member of The Crust at age 13, Joshua's life has always revolved around music. He lives to play music and has never really met a musical instrument he didn't like. In addition to electric and acoustic guitar, drums, and piano, Josh plays trumpet, cello, accordion, synth, 12-string, and bass guitar. Josh is eager to play and excited to jump into any genre.

Active in Scouts, concert band, jazz band, and choir, Joshua was honored to be selected for OPUS (State Honor Choir) as a 7th-grader. He also loves art, is a Des Moines Art Center scholarship winner, and is an accomplished and creative cook. Josh is currently working full-time as a carpenter apprentice and part-time as a guitar tech.

Steffen

Guitar, drums, keyboard, vocals

Steffen exudes energy. An accomplished percussionist, he also plays piano, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, and violin. Currently finishing Luthier School in Nashville, Steffen loves performing and would rather play music and entertain than any other activity.

Jacob

Bass Guitar, drums, vocals

Jacob (aka "Jub") plays bass guitar, guitar, and drums.

He never had any true “dreams” until he found music and performing. Music is his one true passion, and he considers performing his drug of choice. A quintessential bassist, his face is calm while his fingers are flying. He's always up to jam on some Rush.

Jub enjoys being an enigma and likes to surprise with his unpredictability. Watch out.
